Your videos stay on your device
Last updated 7 October 2026
In short
- No accounts and no cookies.
- Videos are made in your browser and saved in your browser. They are never uploaded — not to us, not to anyone else.
- We count how the site is used with anonymous statistics, and we note the public link of each game that is turned into a video, so we know which games people make videos of.
What stays on your device
Your finished videos and their cover images, the chess analysis of your games (so a re-roll is quick) and your settings are kept in your browser's storage (IndexedDB and localStorage). They don't leave your device. You can delete a video in My videos, or everything at once by clearing this site's data in your browser — then they are gone for good, so download the videos you want to keep.
What we collect
We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) for anonymous usage statistics. Analytics identifiers live only in memory: nothing is written to your device, and you start as a new anonymous visitor on every visit. We collect:
- pages visited, and roughly where on the page people click or scroll (heatmaps — not what you type);
- page speed measurements and error reports, so we can fix what breaks;
- actions such as importing a game, starting, finishing, downloading or deleting a video, with the video settings (format, length, style options), how long it took and basic device information (browser, operating system, screen size, number of processor cores);
- where each video's game came from: the public chess.com or lichess game link — or, for a pasted PGN, its own link header or a one-way fingerprint of the text (never the PGN itself), or the FEN position you entered.
Like any website, requests carry your IP address; PostHog uses it to estimate an approximate location (country). We don't collect your name, email or the usernames you type, and we never see your videos.
Games from chess.com and lichess
When you search for a player or open a game, your browser loads it straight from chess.com or lichess, and their privacy policies apply. chess.com game links are looked up through a small relay on our host (their site doesn't allow browsers to read that page directly); it only passes the request on.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes requests (including IP addresses) to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse.
Your choices
- Content and tracker blockers can stop the statistics; the site keeps working.
